Notes on the Vassal Module for GDW's Chaco This module supports all of the Chaco scenarios and all of the optional rules. Here are some notes on features that might not be obvious. Disruption is represented, not by a separate marker as in the original game, but by an asterisk overlaid on the unit. Select "Disrupt" from the unit's command menu (or press Ctrl-D) to display and remove the asterisk. Similarly, out-of-supply status (for which there was no marker in the original game) is handled by an overlay. Select "Out of supply" from the command menu (or press Ctrl-S). The optional Hidden Units rule is implemented via the Vassal mask feature. Select "Mask" from the command menu (or press Ctrl-H). The enemy player will see a mask image of a generic infantry regiment with a strength of "?" (since the rules state that all hidden units are treated as infantry regiments); the owning player will see the a smaller version of the regular counter on top of the mask image. The Bolivian and Paraguayan Division/Corps Composition Charts can be opened via the buttons on the toolbar. They are not private; either player has access. If you want to keep the contents secret, use masking. Pre-defined scenario setups put the units in the approximate locations specified in the rules. Some fine-tuning is always necessary. Note that the grid coordinates in the Vassal module do not match the grid coordinates printed on the map. I do not believe it is possible to replicate the game's original coordinate style.
