Hearts and Minds

Follow the steps in the setup procedure. Also consult the Playbook to ensure you do everything.

Setup

  1. Blue: Prepare the deck. Right-click the black deck and distribute the cards using the two commands. Then see the Playbook for any other card preparations. Remember that in the later scenarios, you remove cards from the deck. Draw your initial hand. Do not send cards to your opponent's hand unless you are playing Solo.

  2. Red: Draw VC units from the VC Pool and deploy on the map. Deploy 1 VC wherever you see a VC setup marker. In 1965, deploy 2 more VCs on red flags or border provinces of Laos or Cambodia (stacking: max 2 VC per province). When done, you can right-click any VC setup marker and delete all of them at once. See the Playbook setup for any other deployment options. (You may find it easier to place VCs if you zoom out the map.)

  3. Red: Draw cards to your hand after Blue completes deck preparations.

  4. Blue: You may redeploy up to 5 friendly units to any provinces that do not contain red flags or Red units.

General Information

  1. Every unit and marker has its own right-click menu.
  2. Take a moment to explore the buttons on the toolbar.
  3. Tabled Cards window: Cards that should remain faceup in play can go here or to the right of the map. Put out-of-game cards in the Tabled Cards window.
  4. Tracks: Track Political Will and RVN Stability here. You may also track it on the map's game track. There are tracking markers in the Markers window.
  5. There are red and blue "0" markers on the map. If you right-click one, you can increase/decrease the number. You may use them to track your RP Action expenditures each turn -- handy in PBEM. There are two sets for your convenience.
  6. There is a button on the bottom of the Body Count Box. It will flip all vet units in the BCB to their untried side.
  7. When you play a card, put it on the right side of the map. To discard, right-click it to your discard pile. To identify which played card is yours, you may put a colored bead on it. The beads are in the Markers window.
  8. All decks (incuding the VC Pool) automatically shuffle themselves.
  9. When Blue withdraws unit, put them someplace in the Units window.
