Notes on the Vassal Module for GDW's Torgau The original game used substitution counters to represent step losses. The module builds step losses into the units themselves. Select a unit and press Ctrl-DownArrow to lose a step; press Ctrl-UpArrow to gain one. Value and color changes are handled automatically. Square formation is represented, not by a separate marker as in the paper game, but by a symbol change on the unit. Select a unit and press Ctrl-S to change from line to square or vice versa. Similarly, Disordered status is represented by an asterisk overlaid on the unit. Press Ctrl-D. Although Rule 11H indicates that players should keep track of hits due to fire during the course of movement and apply those hits simultaneously at the end of the phase, the paper game provides no means for recording them. The module adds a hit indicator. If you want to want to follow the advice of rule 11J regarding declaration of fires, the module provides a Fire marker. Select the marker press Ctrl-Uparrow and Ctrl-Downarrow to adjust the number of rounds of fire. It does not stack and can be moved and rotated without affecting the units underneath it. The Vassal line-of-sight feature is accessible from the toolbar. Click on the "Check LoS" button. Then, left-click on the firing unit and drag to the target. The line of sight will appear as a red line, and the range will display above the target hex. Click anywhere on the map to turn off LoS. But, as always with older games, keep in mind that there are some irregularities in the spacing of the hex grid (although they aren't bad in this game). In order to give the Prussian player a hidden place to plan his offensive, the Approach March Table is a side-restricted window, accessible only to the Prussian and Solitaire player. To compensate for the lack of table space, the module adds an area for sorting counters. Also, there are markers to record the time and entry point for the four corps; these markers can be cloned. * * * * * Note that, in the initial setup, all Prussian units are deployed on the Approach March Table. * * * * * UNIT COMMAND MENU * Movement Trail (Ctrl-T) - Toggle the trail on or off. * Rotate Right (Ctrl-RightArrow) - Change facing to the right. * Rotate Left (Ctrl-LeftArrow) - Change facing to the left. * Hit (Ctrl-H) - Record a hit suffered during movement.
