Choosing a Side
Select Christian or Muslim. A Solitaire/Referee option is included that gives access to both hands.
Drawing Cards
Use the menu in the main toolbar to deal cards to each player--either a full 7 cards or using the Deal 1 Card choice to do it one at a time. The latter option should be used after play of a siege event that
directs you to draw a replacement card. The main deck on the map shows the number of cards remaining, so use caution when dealing 7 cards at once if not enough remain.
Card Play
All cards may be right-clicked and played for Operations Value, Event, Siege Event (if applicable), or Diplomatic Influence (if applicable). There is no requirement to do this, but it will
trigger a message to save you some typing. Cards can simply be dragged to the Discard Pile (or Removed From Game pile if applicable) instead.
Exchanging Cards (Ransoming Leaders)
Each player hand has a toolbar button that will send a random card to the opponent's hand, as well as a toolbar button to perform a random discard.
Forces
If extra units beyond those that start on the map or in the Force Pool arrive by card play in a scenario, they must be taken from the Forces map window, since a power's units are limited to the number of pieces in the physical version of the game. The piece palette that contains all the leaders and units is unavailable in-game, to prevent creation of more units than are allowed.
Important: if a leader with a command rating of 4 or greater gets a Death result on the Leader Loss Table, he is permanently removed. Players may want to move that leader from the Dead Pile back to the Forces window.
Stacking
The mouse-over stack viewer will display the current combat strength of all units and leaders, as well as the stack's Attrition Value. Castles are in a separate game piece layer and won't stack with units, so be sure to factor their combat strength in separately, as it will not be reported in the stack viewer label.
Sieges
A stack of units can be marked with an "Inside" label to show that it is inside a stronghold (as a right-click action). Choose that right-click action again to toggle the label off. Castles have a Blockade action that places a Blockaded! marker. Take any other siege-related markers from the palette and modify them accordingly (e.g., the Resistance Factor marker can increase or decrease to the correct level, flip the Failed Calls for Surrender marker over to get the appropriate side).
Diplomatic Status Markers
Each power's diplomacy marker sets a power-specific property for its diplomatic alignment when dragged to one of the 3 diplomatic status boxes. The Eliminate and Demobilize actions for leaders and units will then send pieces to the appropriate map boxes for the power's current status.
Diplomacy and Replacement Rate Tables
Use the Scenario Info button to access a dropdown menu that contains the tables for each scenario.
