Yggdrasil - Vassal Module HowTo
What this is: A module howto - A simple document to help you use this module and deal with its idiosyncrasies
What this is not: A rulebook - if you need help with the rules please see the Help | Game Rules entry for a link to the rule booklet.
What this really is not: Professionally proofread - While English is my primary language, grammar and writing are not strengths of mine, sorry.
How to setup a game:
- First choose a side by either going up to File and choosing New Game, or if someone has already created a game, synchronize with them
- When prompted choose the appropriate side ( choose solo to be able to use all Player Boards )
- All Player Boards are visible, but you may only interact with your own items
- Choose your God(s) by going to the Pieces Button and go to the Gods Tab. Then draw one of the gods to your hand by dragging and dropping onto your player board. If you are playing solo, repeat this action for each hand you will be playing
- You will then need to setup the number of Elves equal to the number of Gods being used plus one. Take them from the Pieces button, and drag them onto the main board. Then drag them to the Elf Stack in Alfheim, or right click and Send to Alfheim. NOTE: One Elf starts in Alfheim
- Shuffle the Frost Giant deck by right clicking on it and hitting Shuffle
- You will then need to setup the 42 card enemy deck according to your desired difficulty by clicking the setup button to be taken to the setup board
- The decks are divided up by difficulty along the top
- Now Shuffle the normal deck, by right clicking on the normal deck and hitting Shuffle
- If you want the easiest game: You have already done all the work! Right click the normal deck again and choose send to main board. You are done with setup, skip down to HOW TO PLAY THE GAME.
- If you want a difficult game: Add Angry Enemy cards by dragging one or more off the angry pile into a middle area where you can see which god it is. You will then need to remove a corresponding normal enemy god from the Normal deck by right clicking and choosing "Draw Specific Card". Choose the appropriate god, which will place it on top. You will then need to drag it off the normal pile to the rubbish deck as it will not be used this game. Then drag the corresponding Angry Enemy Card to one of the work decks, ensuring there is only one Special Card per Work Deck. Example: You want to play with Angry Hel. Drag her Angry card to a work pile. Now Right Click on the Normal Deck and choose "Draw Specific Card" and choose Hel_Normal. Drag it off the Normal Deck and into the Rubbish Deck.
- If you want an even more difficult game: Drag a number of Ragnarok-4, which are 4 different Enemy movements on one card, or the Ragnarok-6, which is all six Enemies move, to work decks ensuring that each work deck contains only one special card. Do not remove any enemy cards from the normal deck.
- If you want the hardest game: Combine difficult and even more difficult options above as desired.
- If you want an insane game: Remove cards as per instructions above, but put all Special cards along with the approriate number of normal cards into a single work deck. Shuffle the work deck and then righ click and choose "Send to Main Board". NOTE: This could will lead to a game where you could draw 10 specials in a row! After doing this skip down to HOW TO PLAY THE GAME.
- Now you should have a bunch of work decks with one special in each. You will need to divide the number of remaining Normal Deck cards by the number of work decks you have. You will then need to Right Click on the Normal Deck and choose "Draw Multiple cards" and input the number you got via the above division. Drag each to set to a different work deck. For the left overs keep adding one to different works deck until all normal cards have been used. These extra cards can be used to pad earlier/later parts of the deck as desired.
- The work decks are now all built. You will now need to shuffle each, and then right click and choose "Send to Main Board". If order is important it stacks them using FILO ( EG First deck sent to main board, Last Out deck out ).
- You can now close this board and not look at it again unless you want to play another game, which require resorting the cards from the discard stack. Better yet just start a new game.

- Sif:Can use Nidavellir 3 times for one action. When tranced, all weapons are +1
- Idunn:When drawing an enemy, reduce their power's strength by 1. Fenrir still takes an action to calm, but at power 0 it is automatically successful. When tranced, at the beginning of a turn, roll the die. On white or blue, take an extra action
- Thor:Add one to combat strength. When tranced, reduce combat Strength of all Frost Giants by 1.
- Tyr:Manually roll the Dice Twice and choose which to use. When tranced, don't discared vikings until after the roll is made.
- Vidar:If you use an Elf before rolling, this counts as +2 instead of +1. When tranced, for an action discard an elf and recieve 4 vikings instead of taking one from Alfheim
Misc Notes:
- I have placed a number of text fields to make the game easier, if you prefer not to use them, in order to make the game more difficult, place Closed tokens over them to make them so you can not see the numbers.
- All the before mentioned text fields depend on the cards being in their appropriate piles so if you choose to keep the dead Frost Giants out so you can build the rune pictures, the rune numbers will not work. Likewise if you do not place Vikings on the stack in Helheim it will not track them.
- Hopefully you enjoy playing this module, I have put in quite a bit of time. Thanks for your attention and if you enjoy playing this module, please support all those involved with the creation of this wonderful game by purchasing it through Ludonaute or Z-Man Games.
