Scenario Pack for VASSAL Flight Leader Modules There are two Scenario Packs containing saved game setup files for all of the scenarios listed in sections 24.0 and 25.0 of the Flight Leader rulebook. The two packs differ in that one set is designed for use with the Standard Game module and the other for use with the "blind" or Umpired Game. The scenarios for the Standard module are all prefixed with "Std_" and those for the Umpired Game module with "Blind_". Furthermore, the ZIP files have a version number in the filename which corresponds to the version number of the module. Thus, the SP_Std_1.1.zip zipfile should be used with version 1.1 of the standard game module. Zipfile SP_Blind_1.1u.zip should be used with version 1.1u of the Umpired game module. Zipfiles for future releases of the Scenario Packs (if any), will always correspond to the appropriate version numbers of the modules. Simply unzip the scenario pack and copy to a subfolder wherever the Flight Leader module resides. Neither module has a menu for loading scenarios, so there are no restrictions on folder names or placement. Each scenario file contains all the counters needed to play the given scenario, with all Callsigns and Aircraft IDs pre-configured. The files are named with the rulebook section number. For example, scenario 24.1, The First Jet-to-Jet Air Combat, has a filename of Std_24.1.sav (standard module) or Blind_24.1.sav (Umpired module). Scenarios with mulitple "parts" (24.11, 24.17 and 24.19) use a separate save file for each part with the appropriate sub-section in the filename (24.11.1, 24.11.2, etc.). It is assumed for setup purposes players will be playing the Advanced Game with the addition of Optional Rule 15.0 (Environmental Options). Because VASSAL objects for the A and B cloud units have not yet been created, this option has not been used in the setup files. Scenarios with cloud *decks* have altitude counters placed on the Turn Record Card. Umpires and Players are free to use other Optional Rules upon mutual agreement. Counters are set up as much as is possible within the guidelines of the scenario notes and rules. Note that such things as initial altitude, speed and aircrew scheduling must still be set up by each player. Also note that according to rule 9.3, Status Cards must be set up for all aircraft in the game prior to the start of play, even those entering on later turns. Players and Umpires should carefully review the setup and make appropriate adjustments prior to commencing play. When scenario descriptions specify variant aircraft, they have been substituted for the base aircraft type given in the rulebook. In many cases, Variant counters were created for aircraft flown by a country or branch other than the primary (e.g., gray counters for F-4s and F-16s flown by Israel, dark blue F-4S flown by USAF). *Some* of the information from the scenario descriptions in sections 24.0 and 25.0 have been included in the Notes window. Players must still reference the rulebook for additional special rules and victory points for each scenario. Standard Game scenarios are NOT compatible with version 1.0 of the Flight Leader Module. Players should download and run version 1.1. Special notes for the Umpired Game scenarios only: -------------------------------------------------- The Acquisitions window has all Initiative markers, plus duplicates of all aircraft (for use on the opposing forces' mapboards) and Tally/Lockon counters as required. Umpires should be careful to set the Hidden or Bogey properties as needed before moving aircraft counters to the mapboards. Umpires should read the Blind_Addnedum.txt file for further information and tips on using the Umpired Game module. Umpires creating their own DYO scenarios should consider placing each side's setup information in a Private or Delayed Note for that player.
