Notes on the Vassal Module for Road to Washington The module includes pre-defined setups for all twelve scenarios but not for the numerous options and variations. Units are positioned in their general area of deployment, but please read the scenario instructions for precise guidelines. Step losses, exhaustion, and ammo levels have been applied, but I encourage you to double-check everything during setup. The module adds a Turn Record Track to keep track of reinforcements. The Operational Map appears in the upper right corner of the main map window. The module implements hidden operational movement via numbered group markers that are keyed to side-restricted displays where the actual units are deployed. All charts and tables are accessible from the Charts menu. The TEC and the Fire Combat Results Table also appear on the main map window, but this is more aesthetic than functional. The module adds hex numbers to the tactical map. Numbering begins with the west edge of map 2 and continues all the way to the east edge of map 3. My preference is always to reflect step losses by changing the value displayed on the unit counter itself rather than via a separate marker. This approach is not suitable to Road to Washington because it is often essential to know the original strength of a unit as well as its current strength. I have, however, at least made the step markers so that the value can be adjusted without the need to swap out markers. The counters reflect the published errata. Two Confederate units not addressed in the errata (7 Ga and 18 SC) have discrepancies between the step count shown on the front and back of the counters. I have assumed that the fronts are correct. COMMAND MENU * Delete (Ctrl-X) - Delete the piece. * Movement Trail (Ctrl-T) - Toggle the movement trail on or off. * Change Facing Right (Ctrl-RightArrow) - Turn the unit 30 degrees to the right. * Change Facing Left (Ctrl-LeftArrow) - Turn the unit 30 degrees to the left. * Mark Move (Ctrl-M) - Remove the movement flag from the unit. * Send to Dead Pile (Ctrl-S) - Send the unit to the appropriate dead pile in the lower right corner of the main map window. * Shaken/Routed (Ctrl-R) - Mark the piece as Shaken, then Routed, then back to good morale. * Flip (Ctrl-F) - Flip the piece to its reverse side. MARKERS The published Road to Washington contains an impressive array of markers. With the exception of Shaken/Routed (which are built into the unit counters), the module retains all of these and adds even more. * There are distinct, color-coded number markers to track steps, ammo, exhaustion, prisoners, and gun crews. Values on these markers can be adjusted via Ctrl-UpArrow and Ctrl-DownArrow. * Most other markers are available in side-specific colors to help keep the front line distinct. * In most cases markers are one-sided. The exceptions are those instances where being able to flip the marker makes sense during game play: Incapacitated Leader/New Leader and Winded/Blown. * A New Leader counter can be edited via Ctrl-U to identify the relevant formation. * The module includes blank yellow, orange, and green markers for you to use as you please. They can be edited to include two lines of brief text.
