Notes on the Vassal Module for ICE's Manassas This module is based on the 1st edition of the game, as that is the one I own. I do not know whether the counters match those in the 2nd edition, but the module does represent formation change on the unit itself rather than through a separate counter. While the map in the module is a scan of the original, the counters have been built from scratch within Vassal. Regrettably, none of the available cross-platform fonts have the charm of the hand lettering in the printed game. The casualty/ammo/VP tracks are scans of the original components, but they are interactive. Click on a box to mark or unmark it. The Vassal line-of-sight feature is accessible from the toolbar. Click on the "Check LoS" button. Then, left-click on the firing unit and drag to the target. The line of sight will appear as a red line, and the range will display above the target hex. Click anywhere on the map to turn off LoS. Note, however, that because it was not feasible to get the hand-dreawn map to match the mathematically perfect Vassal hexfield exactly, automated LOS should be used with discretion. There is a single Engaged marker whose value can be adjusted by pressing Ctrl-UpArrow or Ctrl-DownArrow. COMMAND MENU * Movement Trail (Ctrl-T) - Toggle the trail on or off. * Turn Right (Ctrl-RightArrow) and Turn Left (Ctrl-LeftArrow) - Change facing. Note that units turn 30% at a time rather than 60% so that they will work on both the map and the tracks. * Disrupt/Rout (Ctrl-D) - Cycle through a "D", an "R", or nothing. Morale is represented by a letter superimposed on the unit counter rather than by a separate piece. * Change Formation (Ctrl-F) - Switch from line to column (or from limbered to unlimbered). * Delete (Ctrl-X) - Delete the piece.
