Here are some tips on playing the game:
-
You can play a scenario by selecting File->Scenarios. From here you can also
select "New Game" to create your own scenarios.
- Press the "Notes" button to read the scenario description and rules.
- To activate units, right-click on them and select "Order Unit" from the menu. They will be marked with red highlights. Units that are moved will automatically be activated and have a movement trail. Press the button on the toolbar marked "mov" to remove the red highlights and movement trails on all units on the board at the end of your turn.
- When moving multiple hexes, make sure to move the unit into each hex on its path in order to generate an accurate movement trail.
- Units that are unable to battle because of movement and/or terrain effects can be noted by placing a blue marker on them. The marker is placed by right-clicking the unit and selecting "No Battle Marker" from the menu (or if the unit is already selected, by keying Ctrl-N).
- To battle, right click the battling unit and select "Attack Marker" to place the yellow marker on it. Right click the target unit and select "Target Marker" to note the target of the attack with a red marker. After battling, you may right click the yellow attack marker and select "Battled" and it will be replaced with a blue marker to note that this unit cannot attack again this turn.
- The battle dice rolls are reported to the chat window using abbreviations to stand for the various symbols: INF=Infantry, ARM=Armor, GRE=Grenade, FLG=Flag, and STR=Star.
- All of the attacker, target and "no battle" markers can be cleared from the board with the "Clear" button just to the left of the "Mov" button on the control panel.
- Units record hits by right clicking and selecting "Take Hit" from the menu. They can be rallied by "Recover Hit". When a unit takes its final hit, the chat window will report it as destroyed and the unit will have no strength number. Place the destroyed unit on your opponent's victory track to represent a victory medal. To keep the board tidy, you can delete the movement trail of a unit placed on the victory track by right click and selecting "Movement Trail" which will remove the movement trail from a unit that already has one.
- Objective medals, when earned, can be dragged directly from the board and placed on the victory track. Or, if you prefer to leave them in place to note where they came from, you can drag a medal from the "Pieces" menu (under "Markers").
- There are both Axis and Allies buttons on the top
of the screen that open a window to hold a hand of command cards. You can only open or view your own hand. Draw cards from the pile and drag them to your hand. Command cards are drawn face-down from the deck in order to facilitate the Recon card rules. When face-down, the cards will be completely masked to all except the player who draws the card. The owning player will see the back of the card in miniature in the upper left corner. This means the card is face-down to everyone else, but the owning player can still see the face of the card. After playing a Recon card, draw two cards onto the board, choose one to discard and place the other in your hand. Don't forget to flip the card over for your opponent to read when playing cards on your turn.
- In order to move or delete an obstacle, such as sandbags, hedgehogs and wire, you must select it by using Shift+click.
