Hannibal:
Rome vs Carthage Quick-Start Guide
Some things you need to know about
this module. Changes in version 1.1 are
marked in red color. Changes in version 1.2 are
marked in green color.
Starting
a Game
To start a new game with default
setup, go to File -> New Game -> Standard Setup. To start a new
game with clear map, go to File -> New Game -> Empty Map.
Reporting
I have spent a lot of time to add
custom reporting. In Hannibal it is very easy to miss your opponent's
actions if you don't see all the map. So every action is reported.
Strategy
Cards
When a player draws strategy cards
and puts them in his hand, they are automatically flipped face-up.
When a strategy card is played
face-up to the map, a list of clickable available actions appears next
to the card. If you click on one of these actions, the action will be
reported and the actions list will disappear. This way your opponent
knows how you will play your card and you don't need to tell him. If
you decide (before you make any actual actions!) that you want to
change your action, then just move the card on the map and the
available actions will re-appear.
When you discard some specific
cards, a pop-up will appear asking you if you want to do something.
Example: When you discard "Hanno
Counsels Carthage", you will be asked if you want to activate the
effect of the card. Your decision will reflect on the Information Box
(see Information Box below).
Example: When you discard "Syracuse
allies with Carthage", you will be asked if you want to permanently
remove the card from the game. Notice that you will have to manually
flip Syracuse to Carthaginian Control. On the other hand, the counter
in the Naval Movement Modifiers Table will be automatically placed if
Syracuse is Carthaginian.
After a player plays
Truce for it's event, every card that cancels Truce's event and goes to
the Discard pile will ask you if you want to cancel it.
If you right click the
Discard pile, the option "Draw specific cards" appears. With this you
can see alphabetically which cards are in the discard pile.
Battle Board and Combat Cards
To open the Battle Board press the
Battle button.
Same as the strategy cards, battle
cards will be flipped face up when placed in a player's hand. In the
Battle Board window there is a button named Reshuffle. Press it only
after a battle has finished and it will reshuffle all battle cards
(from hands, discard piles and anywhere else) in the Battle Deck.
Below Battle Deck, the Roman Playing
Area and the Carthaginian Playing Area there is a number representing
the number of cards in each pile. It will help you to track the number
of battle rounds.
Political
Control markers (PC), Cities and Tribes
When you accidentaly place a PC,
City or Tribe over an existing PC, City or Tribe, the new one will be
deleted. The same will happen if you place it in a non valid location.
This was needed to prevent wrong placement of PCs and for correct
scoring calculations (see Calculate Scoring Provinces Button).
To select a PC, City or Tribe on map
click on it while pressing Shift.
Combat
Units (CU)
As with PCs, if you place any CU in
invalid locations (e.g. on a deck) it will be deleted. There is also a
check for the number of elephants in game. If you try to place more
than 4 elephants, they will be removed. Siege Train marker added.
End
Turn Button
When you finish a turn, press the
End Turn Button. This is very important and you should never forget it.
It will update information on the Information Box, move the Turn
Counter and reshuffle Strategy Cards if "Truce" is in the Discard Pile.
Don't use it mid-turn if you forget it 'cause it will create a mess.
Information
Box
Displays information about cards
that can be removed and in-game effects. It can be selected and moved
if you click on it while pressing Shift.
Calculate Scoring Provinces (Provinces
Button)
This button will calculate how many
provinces each player controls. It takes 5-10 seconds to do the
calculations and Vassal will seem to freeze. Don't worry, just let it
do it's work. Don't press this more than once because vassal won't
un-freeze until it calculates once for each button press. I recreated the calculation
procedure. Now it takes less than a second to complete.
Hide
Armies (Armies Button)
Sometimes it's difficult to see
which side controls a space because there are CUs over it. So I added
this button that hides/un-hides all CUs, generals and the Turn Counter.
Charts
Added Turn
Reference Sheet, Rules Summury and detailed Stratefy Card List.
Version 1.2 additions
Added Siege Points to Tribes.
Added multiple dice rolls for proper reporting.
Added a Notes window. New scenarios offer information through the Notes window.
